Electrical Engineering for Industrial Facilities
Industrial facilities depend on electrical systems that are properly sized, coordinated, and designed for long-term reliability — not just current loads.
At Cortex, electrical design is developed around process loads, facility constraints, and future capacity requirements. Distribution systems are sized and coordinated with mechanical and controls infrastructure so power delivery supports production from day one — and scales as needs change.
Electrical Capacity & Load Assessment
We review available power, distribution systems, and equipment load requirements to determine power system infrastructure needs. Load development is coordinated with process requirements to confirm capacity before design advances.
Capabilities include:
- Electrical capacity and infrastructure review
- Grounding evaluation assessments
- Load list development and power demand coordination
- Identification of required panel or distribution upgrades
- Area classification analysis

Electrical Power & Distribution Design
We design power distribution systems from high and medium service entrance through MCCs, panels and individual equipment connections. Distribution architecture is coordinated with process and controls systems to ensure power delivery aligns with production requirements.
Capabilities include:
- Working with utilities for new power connections
- Design of transformers and distribution equipment
- Design of motor control centers, power panels, control panels and heat trace systems
- 1-line diagrams and power panel layouts
- Plan view drawings with equipment locations and area classification drawings
- Design and installation details for supporting equipment like heat tracing, cable trays, grounding and lighting
- Issue-for-construction packages and contractor coordination

Startup, Validation & Support
Electrical engineering continues through installation and startup. Equipment is energized in a defined sequence to confirm proper function, and power infrastructure is tested to verify protection devices operate as designed.
Systems are reviewed during installation to confirm alignment with design documents. Validation is completed before production begins, client teams are trained to operate and maintain the system independently and coordination with process and controls teams ensures electrical infrastructure and system logic are aligned before full production begins.
Capabilities include:
- On-site startup and commissioning support
- Installation review and system verification
- Electrical testing and protection device validation
- Operator and maintenance training
- Remote support and post-startup assistance
