Construction Support

Construction Support for Project Execution

At Cortex, engineering doesn't stop when construction begins.

Engineering Coordination & Field Support During Project Execution

Our team remains engaged through installation and startup, providing technical direction, resolving field conditions and confirming that work in the field stays aligned with issued design documents.

Field Engineering & Technical Clarifications

Our engineers provide timely clarification and technical direction based on issued P&IDs, layouts, specifications and models. Responses are coordinated across process, mechanical, electrical and controls disciplines to maintain alignment with the original engineering intent.

Capabilities include:

  • Review and response to contractor RFIs
  • Field interpretation of PFDs, P&IDs and equipment specifications
  • Coordination of design clarifications across disciplines
  • Redline development and drawing updates
  • Evaluation of field deviations against design documents

Installation Oversight & Coordination

Engineering oversight continues as equipment, piping, utilities and structural systems are installed. We review installation progress against design packages and identify issues requiring correction or adjustment. 3D models may be referenced during installation to confirm routing, clearances and integration within constrained facilities.

Capabilities include:

  • Installation review against issued IFC drawings
  • Piping and equipment alignment verification
  • Utility tie-in coordination within active facilities
  • Review of panel installation and instrumentation placement
  • Field coordination with contractors and client representatives

Construction Management

For clients who need more than engineering oversight during construction, Cortex can provide construction management support that bridges design intent and field execution. Our construction managers work directly with contractors, subcontractors and client teams to coordinate work sequences, enforce quality standards and keep projects on schedule and within budget.

By aligning the engineering and construction, issues are resolved faster, scope creep is caught earlier, and the final installed product stays aligned with engineering intent from first weld to final punch list.

Capabilities include:

  •       Contractor and subcontractor coordination
  •       Work sequence planning and schedule oversight
  •       Quality control and inspection coordination
  •       Budget tracking and cost control during construction
  •       Safety compliance coordination with site requirements
  •       Owner’s representative services for clients without internal construction management resources
  •       Formal punch list development and closeout coordination

Startup Coordination & Pre-Production Support

Engineering involvement continues through mechanical completion and startup. Systems are reviewed to confirm alignment with design intent prior to full production. Where required, installation is verified against drawings and specifications before process validation activities begin.

Capabilities include:

  • Mechanical completion support
  • Review of as-built documentation
  • Installation verification against design documents
  • Coordination with controls and automation during startup
  • Support for process validation prior to production

Testimonials

Why Clients Choose Cortex

I have worked with Cortex for about 15 years. They have done lots of 3D design work, including for an $11MM HDPE reactor debottleneck and a $30MM waste treatment plant. They bring a great skill set to these projects and are agile and able to adjust to changing conditions."
Their use of the latest technology in producing these packages across multiple disciplines provides exacting details to reduce scope changes and field busts thus reducing the total installed costs of projects. The long-term relationship that we have developed with Cortex provides an experienced background that is influential in bringing project to a successful conclusion."
They provide timely updates, openly discuss challenges and options, and make it easy for stakeholders to understand. They proactively identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising system performance or reliability."
Most recently, I had Cortex develop FEL2/3 estimates for six Turnaround projects (three MCC replacements and three piping/ structural projects). All of these projects were well within the error band comparedto when we developed estimates after detailed engineering. I have been pleased with the work that Cortex has performed for me over the years."
Working with Cortex has been exceptional across every phase of the project. Their dedication to transparency, thorough scope development, and clear communication builds confidence from day one. They take the time to understand every operational requirement, clearly define deliverables, and lay out realistic expectations to minimize risk, prevent scope creep, and ensures everyone starts the project aligned."
Cortex has a long history of being instrumental in developing both turnaround and non turnaround capital projects. We have used Cortex to develop competent IFC drawing packages and estimates from scope descriptions."
They have a strong understanding of our internal engineering standards. They consistently uphold internal specifications, industry best practices, and quality expectations in every aspect of design, programming, documentation, and implementation."
